Today a request like this in the right hands might result in an internationally successful series with surprisingly deep characters and stories complete with a rich mythology that pulls in viewers of a shockingly large age range.

In the 1980s it resulted in this 86 minute toy commercial featuring volcano witches, oceans of slime, and Danny Devito defying typecasting conventions by playing an unattractive short thing.

The Ponies of Dream Valley are threatened by the Smooze, a monster of goop that spreads and engulfs the land. Nothing can stop the Smooze. We hear it over and over. Nothing can stop the Smooze, except for maybe that one thing that stops it. Together with three children who apparently have no loving parents, a fellowship of ponies journey to Flutter Valley to find help. Also, we follow the tale of Lickety Split, as she shows the world why she truly is the worst pony.

Meet the Bushwoolies, a bunch of lovable tiny friends to the ponies that nobody cares about, so much so they get kind of replaced by the Grundles half way through. (Grundles being loveable tiny but ugly friends to the ponies).

Can the ponies free the land from the grip of the Smooze-creating witches of the Volcano of Gloom? Will the Flutter Ponies stop being jerks and help out?
