Greensleeves (What Child is This?) - England

We can approach arranging in different ways. One approach is to create a “full model” arrangement. Alternately, it is extremely instructive to take one arranging idea at a time and work it in its entirety. That is what I present with Greensleeves. We explore the following concepts: (1) The aeolian mode and the many harmonic possibilities it offers with a rich chord progression that uses eight chords; (2) “Close” and “open” harmony with two note chords; (3) The concepts of the relative major/minor and the dominant 7th chords; (4) Finding three note chords; (5) Additional arranging ideas such as arpeggio fills, melodic runs, drones, valley rolls, triplets and more; (6) an arpeggio based backup and a more comprehensive backup; and (7) using all the tools above, a “full arrangement.” There is an enormous amount of material here to digest.
