Studies in grayscale.

Moto traffic patterns, a high vantage, sun, and the mood of the hour.

At times somber, at times upbeat.

This is everyday Vietnam.

This image, and the feelings that it conjures for us at DK, are together the redolent source of inspiration this week. The title idea comes from conversational banter in one of our Atelier S P A C E popups in Ho Chi Minh City in the autumn of 2020 when we were there. That idea was: 'A summer noon.'

'Write something.'

'Okay.'

*Five months later*

'Okay, I did.'

From that point of departure, this collection. Cover photograph by Richard Xu, who is based in Berlin and took this street shot of Hanoi. Two inside photos are also included. These are by contributing S P A C E photographers Boss and Van Tran. They are based in Phnom Penh and Saigon, respectively. The photos are coupled with a short story, 'Trưa Hè' by Dipika Kohli--a work of flash fiction. This issue has been curated with care, by A. Spaice.

'Giving some depth and conversation space for that which we discover: that. That is what S P A C E is making room for. Architecting such occasions is our work, here, wherever 'here' is in the world, wherever we find ourselves, in those moments.'

Discover it. Atelier S P A C E | Design Kompany is hosting real life popups in Ho Chi Minh City and other parts of Vietnam, soon, too.
