Preteens are at a critical point of development. They are moving from just trusting everything that a parent, teacher, or even God’s Word tells them about the decisions they make, into the territory of exploring possibilities.
This puts preteens at risk, but also in the place of beginning to trust God with a new level of faith. Preteens are starting to decide where they’ll look for direction in their lives. During our new, highly interactive series called “Where 2 Look”, you'll be equipped to challenge preteens to consider where they are looking for strength and direction in their life.
During this series, we will utilize three pictures – a lighthouse, a rock, and the Cross – to help preteens conceptualize the value and benefit of looking to God in any and every situation they face in life.
Lesson 1. Direction (Psalm 119:105): In this lesson, preteens will be challenged to think about how they make the choices in their lives. They’ll think about where they turn when making decisions, and how they decide what direction to go in life. Your preteens will also be working in a team to build a human lighthouse.
Lesson 2. Strength (Hebrews 4:15): Preteens will learn that even when temptation is tough and they feel week, they can rely on God’s strength and stand up to temptation just like Jesus did. He is our rock in the middle of temptation.
Lesson 3. Forgiveness (Luke 11:4): What happens when we (or others) DON’T look to God for Direction and Strength? Preteens will learn what looking to God for forgiveness means for their own lives as well as how Jesus’ forgiveness extends to others. Preteens may be carrying around a grudge or anger towards someone who has hurt them. Today’s lesson will help them to release it!
Lesson 4. Look to God (2 Samuel 22:3): We must remember. We must reinforce our walk with Christ by remembering to see him at work in our past, and LOOK TO HIM in our future. The series ends with a question for the preteens: will they be like the “stiff-necked” Israelites and not look to God? Or will they remember who God is, and remember to look to him in all seasons of life?
With this series, we want to partner with you and your preteen as they are taking steps toward figuring out for themselves where to look in live for guidance and strength. We believe that preteens will be empowered by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word as they take ownership of their faith and walk.
