Hot Topics

PURPOSE:
There are a lot of hot topics facing the church, but is arguing about them getting anything done?

LOCATION:
Game Show

CHARACTERS:
Jerry—Our conceited host trying to hold the show together.  A suit and loud tie.
Karl—An opinionated contestant (liberal).  Hippie dress.
Betty—An opinionated contestant (conservative).  Business attire.
Vaina – Jerry’s ditzy assistant.  Flashy sequin.

PROPS:
Two podiums (maybe music stands).  A projection screen (if you can) where Vaina will stand and the questions appear.  A buzzer.

TIME:
4-5 minutes

PRODUCTION NOTE:
Contestant can hit a table, pretending to be a buzzer.
Sound good sound effects will help here: MUSIC for the intro, BUZZER sound, APPLAUSE even.

THOUGHTS:
While the church must take a stand on issues, if it is perceived as being full of hate, it is losing its purpose for reaching people.  The issues are not homosexuality, abortion, politics or gun control…the ISSUE IS SIN!  The issues affects Democrats AND Republicans.  All of us fall short of the glory of God!

These hot topics are only temporary issues.  The eternal issue is separation from Christ.  The church must examine the way it presents itself to the world when it comes to the world’s issues and make sure it focuses on the real issue!
