Zoom Art Class: Mix It Up (Mixed Media with Unusual Materials & Simple Techniques)
Date & Time: March 3-24, Wednesdays, 7-9pm PST
Are you interested in mixed media and want to create your own artwork? Do you wish your product to look different than others’ motifs and designs? This fun and playful class will introduce you to some non-traditional art supplies to create your very own unique elements for an abstract mixed media project. You will learn techniques to manipulate the materials, then I’ll share my process that you may follow to combine and incorporate your finished elements while creating your own mixed media abstract art. This is a 4 session mixed media collage/painting workshop where the novice, beginner or more experienced artist can learn new techniques. 1.5-2 hours per session, max. 8 students (aged 16+).
IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL:
• Learn about some non-traditional and unusual materials for mixed media
• Manipulate supplies to create elements to use in your mixed media work
• Learn my process to combine the elements so that they are coherent and work together in one artwork
• Gain knowledge about colour, backgrounds and focal points
• Be exposed to ideas that can spark inspiration to create your own designs
• Work on your own mixed media project
• Play, have fun, and explore in a relaxed, safe setting
THIS CLASS IS FOR:
• Persons who are interested in acrylics, collage and mixed media art
• Those who wish to learn how to create their own mixed media elements/objects
• People who wish to experiment with new materials
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS:
Canvas Board or Woodboard (8x10 - 9x12 ideal sizes)
Paper (Mixed Media, Watercolour, Tissue, Craft Paper, etc., any kind that can be painted)
Shaving foam (do not confuse with shaving gel)
Small Plastic Beads
Foam Sheets
Masking Tape
Hot Glue Gun (with refills)
Embroidery Thread and Needle
Embossing or stamping materials (like old bubble wrap, old corrugated cardboard, an old plastic fork, a plastic comb, etc.)
Matte Gel Medium
Matte Medium
Air Dry Clay
Acrylic Paints
Paint Brushes
Palette
Tub for Water (a clean yogurt container will do)
Rag or Paper Towels
*Aside from Matte Gel Medium and Matte Medium which are only sold at art/craft stores or online, many of the above materials can be found at the dollar store or hardware store. For the embossing materials, before buying, please have a look around your home. You will be looking for items that can create a texture when pressed onto a soft pliable material, like clay.

NOTE: You will be given the Zoom ID and Pass Code 1 day before workshop starts. This is a class primarily for adults (16+) but students 13 years or older are also welcome but must be supervised by an adult. You must have basic computer skills have a device that has both audio and video. Refunds, minus a processing fee, are given up to 48 hours before class start, after 48 hours no refunds will be given.
