I Get The Blues When It Rains by Big Bill Broonzy

Big Bill was a master at combing stunning guitar picking work with his lyrics in such a way that the overall effect was smooth and enjoyable.

Blues When It Rains is played in the key of C and uses the standard chord progression of C, F and G, but of course there are many of those fast single string riffs that characterize Bill's style.

The song follow the familiar format of intro (which in itself is a masterpiece of tasteful finger picking!), and then the verses, with a instrumental break thrown in for good measure.

The guitar work behind the verses is a simplified version of the intro and Bill tends to 'dumb it down' a bit while singing, and then filling in with those lovely riffs between the lines of verse and in the turnarounds between the verses.

The overall feel of the music is the big challenge - how to keep it swinging and damping those basses with the palm of the picking hand - this is great fun to play!
