GAPS Treats: Hyper-Nourishment

When you're eating to heal the gut lining, even knowing that it's a temporary measure, you still want to have special foods that make you feel spoiled.  ...Especially when the people around you are eating things that you can't eat without pain, brain fog, and emotional turmoil.

Without treats that are safe and healthy to eat, most of us would never have the will-power to stick consistently with a healing diet, no matter how much better those restrictions made us feel mentally, physically, and emotionally.

The challenge is, when you have gut dysbiosis the way most autistics do, every time you eat something that feeds the wrong members of your gut ecosystem, you risk feeling like someone took rough sandpaper to your innards from their increased toxic wastes.  Not fun.

GAPS isn't a diet for cheaters.  If someone slips in a little bit of complex carb into a gravy, while we don't lose everything we've gained, we often have to go back to the first stage (very, very restricted foods) for at least a few days to calm down the inflammation.

There are a few recipes here, but what's more important are the principles for how you design healthy treats.  It's not hard, it's quite creative, and wow, is it ever satisfying when people who don't have to eat this way come back for seconds!
