Harakeke for two harps is a duet about the New Zealand native flax harakeke, used for many things including weaving, clothing, mats, plates, baskets, ropes, bird snares, lashings, fishing lines and nets. All made from flax leaves.

Flax is unique to New Zealand and is one of our most ancient plant species.

Flax bushes will often support a large community of animals, providing shelter and an abundant food resource.

Tui, bellbirds/ korimako, saddlebacks/tīeke, short tailed bats/pekapeka, geckos and several types of insects enjoy nectar from the flax flower.

There are two versions available from this downloadable PDF purchase. You will receive both versions with your purchase.

-The original version has Harp 1 playing the melody and Harp 2 playing the accompaniment consistently throughout.

-The newer version for Harp Weekend 2021 has harp 1 and 2 alternating between playing melody and accompaniment throughout.

'Harakeke' is suitable for advanced beginner or intermediate harpist.

Suitable for pedal or lever harp, there are no chromatic changes in the music.
