Flow Gently Sweet Afton - harp solo
The lyrics to this song were written by Robert Burns, and talked about the Ayreshire countryside, and his love for the young lass he was courting. The lyrics were presented to her mother in 1791. There are three different melody lines, only one with a confirmed composer, one resembling the carol "Away in a Manger", and I have recently learnt the lyrics were also sung to the tune of 'The Yellow Haired Laddie", though I've yet to arrange this tune as a harp solo. These are the three different melody lines I was taught as a young singer.
There are a couple of lever changes within the pieces, and between the setting, and a wee bridge passage between the first and second setting to allow for lever changes. We move from the key of F major to Bb major, and there are a few harmonics, and arpeggiated chords in the settings.
