In this short harmonic study I will share with you one of my very favorite ways to add tension, contrast and coloration to minor harmonic vamps or modal sections.

This concept involves some of the theory and ideas of “Opposite Sonorities” - a book I have co-written with Ezequiel Ocampo and which is available through my website or my official bookstore at https://gumroad.com/hristovitchev.

I will illustrate all examples by taking an Amin7 harmony as our sample vamp.

The concept works best in situations where we are presented with extensive intros/outros of a static minor harmony or where we are simply approaching a modal tune with a minor chord progression and want to add these contrasting harmonic textures.
