Environment Texture Creation Using Photogrammetry - Video Tutorial: Muddy Grass
'Environment Texture Creation Using Photogrammetry - Video Tutorial' - v.002
Video preview: https://youtu.be/kRO8tToVMgg
This video tutorial is a result of over two years of my photogrammetry research.
I recorded it to cover things I wasn't able to present properly in my:
'Guide for Environment PBR Texture Creation using Photogrammetry' (https://gum.co/YanD)
as many things are much easier to understand when they are presented in motion.
In 1:20h I covered the entire workflow but also went into details like gear and the way I use it.
I am planning to update this tutorial if I find something worth adding or if something is missing. The number after the title says which update is currently available to download.
As some people prefer videos with voice commentary but for some text and background music works better, I recorded two video versions of that tutorial. One with voice commentary:
Environment Texture Creation Using Photogrammetry - Video Tutorial - Muddy Grass - Voiceover
And another one, where I used text and background music in a way I usually do in my youtube video tutorials.
Environment Texture Creation Using Photogrammetry - Video Tutorial - Muddy Grass - Text
As always any feedback would be appreciated, especially I am really curious which version of tutorial you prefer.
In this video I covered entire process in details from:
- surface capture (tripod, monopod, hand)
- image preproduction (Lightroom, PhotoLab)
- photogrammetry based surface reconstruction (Agisoft Photoscan)
- building lowpoly model on flat and retopology on complex surfaces (ZBrush)
- baking (Substance Designer)- manual seam removal (Substance Painter)
- material tweaking (Substance Designer)
to getting final, useful, tileable in all directions high quality PBR material.
At the end of the process material was tested in Toolbag 3 and Unity engine in my material gym (Marmoset Toolbag 3, Photoshop, Unity).
You can also find more scans I did during research on my ArtStation profile in 'Materials' section: https://www.artstation.com/gbaran
Many thanks to everyone who bought it for your support, I hope you will find it useful.
Besides the video file, there is also a ZIP file attached. It contains:
_final_tweaks-a-n-b-ao-h.sbs - Substance Designer graph I use to tweak materials but with 5 input maps (albedo, normal, bent normal, ambient occlusion, height)
seam_removal_plane_uv1to12.fbx - upgraded 'seam removal plane' with additional 20% of tileable space, uv-mapped to be used in Substance Painter
photogrammetry_puzzle.spexp - preset file with settings I use to export maps from Substance Painter
Thank you,
