Searing pain! A musket ball piercing skin and muscle was a bad way to begin a war. Saving the pretty blonde from that rolling barrel, was a pleasant reward for that battle wound. Alex Peele had no intention of disrupting the regulated life of his pretty blonde, proprietress and brewmaster at the Wheel and Hammer. He might be tempted to abandon the army, and nurse his damn leg. He could not. His mission was to play refugee, a spy inside British occupied Boston. To risk his life. To free the town. He could not promise to return to a woman who had lost one husband to war.
Vowing to leave Nina to her future, Alex demands she promise not to worry about him. She promised. But Nina cannot help it if she longs for Alex’s touch, or dreams finding a way for him to come back to her.
