In the hopes that you will understand what is going on for the non-verbal or less-verbal autistics you support, this 2-page cheat-sheet shares my best explanation of multiple chemical sensitivities and its relationship to the autism spectrum.

When you hear the word "Intoxication", what comes to mind?

Someone drunk stumbling out of a bar?  

All autistics have impaired detoxification, and resulting high levels of toxic body burden.  To some degree, all of us autistics are intoxicated, and going through withdrawal, all the time, at the same time.

Where are these toxins coming from?  

1)  the environment surrounding a body and entering through airways, skin, food, and drink.

2)  the environment within the gut, if the "bad guys" have taken over the internal ecosystem and produce toxic wastes.

Symptoms of Being Intoxicated:  lack of coordination and balance; giddiness; sedation or exhaustion; slurred speech; memory problems; mental confusion; sensory distortion; emotional transparency...

Symptoms of Being in Withdrawal:  restless sleep; depression; paranoia; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; seizures; irritability; dehydration & insatiable thirst; appetite disturbance; aggression; concentration problems...
