Fifth Hour at the Dance Party was commissioned by French saxophonist Serge Bertocchi and premiered by him on November 28, 2012 in Reims, France. Originally written for Serge's Tubax (a contrabass saxophone), it can also be played on the regular E-flat baritone saxophone, or other arrangements made subsequently for (contra-)bass clarinet and double bass. Thanks to Serge for collaboration and premiere of this work, and to Lori Freedman on suggestions for the contrabass clarinet version. the work was revised December 10m 2021 with the assistance of Yo-yo Su, who has recorded a performance for his all-tubax recording to be released in 2022.
