The documentary, Raw to Reel: Drugs, Race, and Sex in Trenton, New Jersey offers some of the complex experiences of people who are in recovery. Specifically, the documentary invites participants to consider how the confluence of recreational/prescriptive drug abuse, race, and sex impact their lives as well as some of the relational decisions that were made.  Given the economic, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical challenges that are intricate to drug addiction and alcoholism, oftentimes it is difficult for some people to make good decisions about their sexuality or the relationships (e.g., romantic and friendships) that they engage in.  The documentary is an opportunity for these unique stories to be told and shared.

In addition to the documentary, there is a pdf with several process questions.  The pdf contains film related questions for clients and therapists to consider to promote conversation. One of the challenges of having difficult conversations about drugs, race, and sexuality is knowing what questions to ask. The production team developed over forty questions that will allow you to engage in in-depth dialogue with your recovery group, clients, family, and community.
