Making a documentary is equally taxing and exhilarating.

And it's expensive. $12,500 for pre-production, $6,750 for equipment, $18,000 to pay your team for production while you're out in the field, $25,000 for post-production, $4,200 for festival submissions, $7,400 to set up distribution. The credit card bills begin to mount.

And then the marketing and publicity begins. And never ends.

Making a documentary is not profitable, and it really shouldn't be. If we're to put out an unbiased and fair product, we can't be concerned about fiscal margins or beholden to the ideal that we're going to make money, and we certainly can't be expected to answer to investors who are looking for a return on their equity position and “a look at the first cut.” (Leave that to Hollywood.)

But! If you'd like to offer us the opportunity to continue to get the word out about the American Dream, please consider a donation. Your donation will be directly used to pay to continue to advance our premise that the American Dream is complex and that everyone should have their shot at achieving it. Specifically, we have foregone a major revenue stream and chosen to allow free public license of this film, and your donation will allow us to continue to achieve our mission to push this film to underprivileged and underserved high schools across the country.

Thank you for your support and for encouraging us to carry on...
