This Cross-training matrix is useful in reviewing and displaying skills of each worker or staff member so in the absence of any one of them or if you are short on any resource, that position can be quickly filled in. This tool is extremely useful in manufacturing as well as in office environments where the volume of work is high and multiple set of skills are desired to complete the activities assigned based on Takt time or customer demand. The cross-training matrix displays proficiency (through legends) in various skills that are required to perform a given set of tasks. By looking at the matrix it is easier for a manager or a team member to identify who can replace a staff member who is absent from work or is pulled into another project leaving a gap in the team.
