This is an academic zine which links the historical demand for and development of women-only prisons with the current crisis of state violence against trans people, particularly trans women, as enacted through criminalization and cruelty in the prison system. It targets the foundations of the U.S. prison system and makes a compelling case for more just and safe alternatives. The paper this zine was adapted from won the Bruce Abrams Award for LGBTQ in 2007. Parts of the proceeds from this zine sold through this website will go to projects that support trans and gender variant prisoners.
