Experience the joy and well-being of coloring mandalas. This 11" x 8.5" PDF/Digital Mandala Coloring Book contains 8 original pastoral-like asymmetry mandalas by Maureen Frank.

According to the first definition of pastoral on definition.com,they define pastoral as having the simplicity, charm, serenity, or other characteristics generally attributed to rural areas as in pastoral scenery or the pastoral life.

THE DESIGNS:

In "Pastoral" I present abstract representations of pastoral-based designs.

  • "Birds of a Feather" looks like a big gathering of birds on the ground where you can only detect their peaks as they poke up into the air.
  • My inspiration for "Branching Out" came from one of the trees I pass on a regular basis as I walk my dogs in our nearby park.
  • I take a more celestial take on the pastoral theme with "Cosmic Sundae"; the orbs are like planets and the lines to a from them are like pathways.
  • "Destiny" presents an abstract view of a landscape as seen through multiple vertical paneled windows.
  • "Funny Face" takes a topographical map-like view of the terrain of a silly looking face.
  • Ever witnessed the charm and simplicity of people floating down a river or in a pond on a warm sunny summer afternoon in their "Inner Tubes"?
  • "Mountain Tops" takes an abstract view of driving along a scenic mountain highway, like in the Great Smokey Mountains; each top competing for its own place in the sun.
  • "Oregon" almost speaks for itself. Driving along the scenic roads in Oregon you see hills, valleys, rivers, fields, clouds and sun(on occasion); and if you go to southeast Oregon you see Crater Lake.

Happy Coloring!

THE PROCESS

I create my own mandala designs by first hand sketching them with pencil and paper, then using a graphics tablet and stylus, I draw the mandala into the computer. I then convert the digital images into a PDF document.

MY STORY

I began creating mandalas in early 1999 after a 10-day trip to Egypt. Through much of that region of the world patterns and symbols decorated just about every structure I visited, whether ancient, old or new. My analytical mind loved the geometry of the Islamic art and the Egyptian hieroglyphics. My heart and soul loved their elegant and symbolic beauty.

When I returned home, I began seeing patterns and symbols in everything around me, even in my dreams. I proceeded to translate these intriguing ideas into mandalas. In early 2000 I learned to use meditation as a way to access the depth of these mandalas, fully exploring their therapeutic and metaphysical natures.

In 2007, after 7 years of creating symmetry mandalas, it came to me to start doing asymmetrical mandalas, a more free-flowing style.
