A Dream of Africa (duo with classical guitar, various soloists) 中阮, 古箏

0 ratings

This lilting music is inspired by African drumming and kalimba music. You will hear interlocking patterns between the players, some parts appearing to move faster than others. I wrote this work in 2006 for Zhimin Yu, the Vancouver-based ruan player (Chinese Moon Guitar). During those years we performed as a duo, myself on classical guitar. The work was a hit with audiences, and soon many musicians began asking for arrangements. I created the first arrangement at the request of Duo Fresco (Brett Deubner, viola; Christopher Kenniff, guitar), and made subsequent arrangements for 2 classical guitars, violin and guitar, cello and guzheng, and Chinese the plucked quartet Red Chamber of Vancouver. The latter arrangement is available as a special order from the composer.

All of the arrangements are with guitar on the second part, except for a special arrangement I did for cello and guzheng (Chinese zither). If Player One wants with guzheng accompanying, rather than guitar, just have the guzheng player download that part.

Player One part has been created for zhongruan, classical guitar, Terz guitar, viola, violin, or cello.

Player Two part has been created for classical guitar or guzheng.

First performed on 10/15/2006 by Oliver Yu Duo, Vancouver East Cultural Centre Vancouver, Canada
