Vital Tones DTD is a brainwave sound therapy app designed to provide treatment for Developmental Trauma Disorder (DTD), which is also known as complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) or complex trauma. DTD is a psychological injury that occurs as a result of prolonged exposure to social and/or interpersonal trauma in situations where the victim feels trapped or lacks a viable escape route, leading to feelings of helplessness, loss of control, and distortions of identity and self-perception. This can include individuals who have experienced chronic maltreatment, neglect, or abuse in a care-giving relationship, as well as hostages, prisoners of war, concentration camp survivors, and survivors of certain religious cults.

Structural brain studies of DTD have revealed notable changes, including reduced gray matter volume in fear regulatory areas such as the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, occipital cortex, anterior cingulate gyrus, superior medial frontal gyrus, insula, parahippocampal gyrus, amygdala, orbifrontal cortex, superior parietal lobule, and hippocampus. Additionally, decreases in white matter have been observed in the corpus callosum area.
