Rojin Monogatari (Project <3 Version 1.1)

A game of no rest for ghosts and old warriors.

Japan. 1207. The emperor has declared the nembutsu ban, and exiled the Buddhist disciples that advocate the sole practice of nembutsu as a path to enlightenment. You are monks and nuns of elderly age who have been afflicted by the exile and must now travel to a distant corner of the country despite your frailty.

On the road you find the countryside plagued with yokai, ill spirits created by the vengeful dead that seek revenge and chaos in the land of the living. Remembering your days before you took monastic vows, when you were warriors serving the feuding clans of the Genpei War, you find yourself with an opportunity to do some final acts of good in your twilight days.

Will you banish the yokai by learning of the wrong deeds that brought them to exist and exorcise them peacefully? Or will you once again take up weapons with trembling limbs to defeat them in the field of battle?

Your path, in these, your final days, are for you to decide.

Rojin Monogatari is a small roleplaying game developed in less than three hours as part of Project <3 (http://projectlt3.com), a challenge for game developers to make interesting, strange, small RPGs as they improve their creativity and fight off the writer's block and doubt that comes from larger projects that seem to never end.

A tabletop RPG meant for one or more players and a game master, it features elderly ex-samurai and onna-bugeisha Buddhist monks and nuns that must defeat evil yokai spirits as elderly feudal Japanese ghostbusters.

It runs around 24 pages in length and costs $0. However, if you feel like making a donation when you make your purchase, that would be welcome.

The PDF version comes with character sheet PDFs as well.
