Called Into Being: A Celebration of Frankenstein

In 1918 Mary Shelley published Frankenstein, little realizing that it would become one of the most influential novels in the English language, and credited with creating the science fiction genre. Artists, writers, scientists, and thinkers of all kinds have continued to return to this story as inspiration over the past two centuries.

This collection doesn't aim to reinterpret or update the story, but rather to celebrate personal histories and relationships with Shelley's landmark novel. Inside, you'll find essays and comics about the ways that Frankenstein has helped us navigate relationships with our families, our identities, and the world around us.

Edited by two long time Frankenstein fans, Allison O'Toole (Wayward Sisters) and Megan Purdy, and with a cover by Richard Pace, we're excited to bring you personal essays, illustrations, and comics by a fantastic team of creators.
