"Clock Waltz" - Valse Clog Guillemette (Joseph Guillemette, Quebec)
kenkolodnerMany years ago, at The Winnipeg Folk Festival, the trio Helicon shared a performance slot with The House Band. Later that evening, in a jam, The House Band shared this lovely waltz with us. I might have misheard the name “The Clock Waltz”! In any case, it quickly became one of my favorite pieces. Originally in Bm, it seemed to work best on the HD in Em. One of the many great lessons of this piece is that it is possible – even desirable – to learn how to shift accents in waltz time away from the “one” to other counts. In fact, syncopations in a waltz are quite effective. It also presents a nice study of the aeolian mode. I present a full arrangement with some variations and a comprehensive backup.
