You Smell

PURPOSE:
As Christians, we must be a fragrance to the world, not an odor.

LOCATION:
House/Outside

PROPS:
A make up table if needed, different sprays if needed (but it can be acted out)

CHARACTERS:
Girl—A conceited girl, checking herself out in the mirror, trying to smell good and be attractive to the world.  (Dresses to kill but not suggestive)
Guy – Walks by and smells her

TIME:
3-4 minutes

PRODUCTION NOTE:
The actress really needs the “look” to pull this off.  Please make sure she doesn’t come off as too sexy.  Having perfume bottles on the table would definitely help the actress, but this will work just as effectively if she can pantomime.  Allow the Guy to definitely give an over-the-top dying scene.

THOUGHTS:
Smell is one of the powerful memory enhancers we have.  Memories flood back to us after we smell the smells of our old home or school or a church we once attended. 

Smell either attracts us or repels us.  There’s quite a difference between a fine perfume and a dead skunk or a delicious dinner and a garbage truck.

People give off smells, not due to body odor, but by their attitudes and actions.  They too either attract others or repel others.

2 Corinthians 4:14-16: But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?

As Christians, we must give off a favorable aroma to attract others to Christ.  Our reputation means everything.

Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.

If we misbehave or act stupid, our reputation begins to rot.

Ecclesiastes 10:1 As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
