Asking Directions

PURPOSE:
A man must lead his family.  He can’t do it if he is lost.

LOCATION:
A Car

PROPS:
Four chairs arranged like a car, A notebook

TIME:
4-5 minutes

CHARACTERS:
Husband: 30s/40s.

Wife: 30s/40s.

Glen: 10 years old, fidgety younger brother.

Suzy 15 years old, embarrassed older sister.

Gas Station Attendant: Any age, wearing overalls, baseball hat.

THOUGHTS:
You’ve heard the old adage, “Men hate to ask for directions.”  Personally, I don’t think that’s true, but it provides a good laugh now and then.

Truth is, we all are scared to ask for directions when it comes to wise counsel.  It’s hard to admit to another person that we are hurting, struggling, grappling with a problem.

As drivers at work or in our family, we must realize that we are taking others with us.  That’s why it is important to get help before we find ourselves way off course.

What keeps us from asking for help?  Pride, embarrassment, self-esteem—take your pick.  Whatever the problem, we need to realize this: every problem has been faced by another individual at sometime.  There are no new problems under the sun.  Asking for help may hurt one’s self-image, but it is not as painful as being responsible for driving your loved ones to the brink.
