The Galway Hornpipe (Traditional, Ireland)

0 ratings

This well-known Irish hornpipe offers us a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the use of less obvious chord substitutions. I use secondary dominants and some other unexpected choices. Concepts covered included how to create a bass line using the “spaces” and “note replacement”, a variety of chord substitutions, triplets, the phrasing of hornpipes, how chords move and much more. The tune itself is simple but the ideas and arrangement are moderately challenging.
