Grow Your Business Instagram Account

In the age of social media advertising, having followers is the foundation of running a successful Instagram campaign. As of June 2016, there were over 500 million active Instagram accounts. How can social media marketers capitalize on this ever-growing platform? Here are three easy steps you can use to grow a business account.

1. Hashtags

Using a hashtag will add your uploaded photo to a database with all other photos using the same hashtag. For example, using #food on your picture will group it with the 178,199,525 other photos tagged with #food in the comments. Commonly, users will search certain hashtags to find topics they’re interested in. A single post allows users to add up to 30 different hashtags.

When creating hashtags, be sure they are short, related to your business, and feature commonly used words, since more unique hashtags aren’t popular search terms. It is a good idea to create your own hashtag for your business (i.e.: #LikeableMedia), so that other users can use the hashtag when they share their own photos, and your community managers can collect UGC. Using hashtags will show immediate results, giving you more likes and more followers.

2. Interaction

Interacting with fans on your Instagram account is key. You can engage with your followers and other accounts in different ways. One way to drive engagement is to ask questions in your captions that encourage fans to comment. Another way to interact on Instagram is to comment back on your own photos. As I just noted, users will often comment on your posts, and it is important to respond to them—even if it’s just a simple “thank you!” It is also important for you to comment on photos from other users. This will help give your account more visibility.

3. Post Often and at Popular Times

Another key to Instagram success is to post content frequently on your Instagram account. Not only will this keep users from getting bored with your feed and unfollowing you, but it also helps drive new users to your account. Posting at optimal times can make a big difference in how many likes a post gets and how many new followers you will gain. For example, on Mondays Instagram is most active between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, but on Fridays, activity surges around 1 a.m. ET. While the time slots do not need to be followed closely for every post, you will certainly see increased engagement at these popular post times. A simple Google search can provide more time data.
