PRISMOPHONY (guitar quartet)

I wrote PRISMOPHONY back in 1999 for the Vancouver Guitar Quartet, who performed a couple of the movements before they disbanded before a full premiere could be arranged. A guitar quartet called L'Hexacorde gave the first performance May 20, 2007 at Maison des Jeunesses Musicales du Canada à Montréal. Musicians: Étienne Guérin, Simon Duchesne, Hugo-Andres Larenas, André Roy. PRISMOPHONY movements written in 1999:

1. Blue

2. Green

3. Purple

4. Yellow

As of March 2020, two more movements remain to be written: Red and Orange. Although I have written a great deal of music since 1999, this work remains a benchmark in my style, and I look forward to finding the time to write the remaining two movements.

“Sounding the prism” would be a literal translation of the title. The parts are equal in difficulty for the most part, as canon technique is frequently used. Thus, a balanced group sound is essential; yet the individual voice of each player should come through. Tempi should be followed very closely:
