Experience the joy and well-being of coloring mandalas.

I created the eight (8) original symmetry mandalas in this 11" x 8.5" PDF Mandala Coloring eBook with celebration-like asymmetry mandalas by Maureen Frank.

THE DESIGNS

  • "Bohemian Sunset" celebrates an abstract landscape with hills, valleys, and far-off lands. Of course you can make it into whatever you want. :-)
  • 21 "8"s float about in "Crazy 8s in Space" celebrating infinite flow and delight. All but one of the 8s overlap.
  • With "Fiesta" I see an overhead view of a festive woman wearing a brightly colored wide skirt spinning around at a celebratory dance.
  • "Heart Vibrations" depicts the center of the heart, with the love and joy radiating outward.
  • "Japanese Maple" represents my own 50+ year old Japanese Lace Maple in our front yard with its gnarly internal branches and protective cover of thick leaves. It's an absolute joy to watch it change throughout the seasons, each with its own unique beauty.
  • "Music Hall" reminds of an old jukebox or the grand stage of Radio Music Hall that I frequented growing up on the east coast. It celebrates the joy of music.
  • "T42" started out as a doodle thinking of the song "Tea For Two" and how the title would be abbreviated for texting. It looks more like an abstract urban setting while celebrating the joy of dance (this song is often used for tap dancing) and companionship.
  • Is there ever a celebration without balloons? "Up, Up & Away" started out as an abstract representation of a field of past-their-prime queen anne's lace wildflowers that shriveled up in little balloon like shapes. Here they look like a field of balloons in various stages of taking off in flight.

Happy Coloring!

THE PROCESS

I create my own mandala designs by first hand sketching them with pencil and paper, then using a graphics tablet and stylus, I draw the mandala into the computer. I the convert the digital images to PDF document.

MY STORY

I began creating mandalas in early 1999 after a 10-day trip to Egypt. Through much of that region of the world patterns and symbols decorated just about every structure I visited, whether ancient, old or new. My analytical mind loved the geometry of the Islamic art and the Egyptian hieroglyphics. My heart and soul loved their elegant and symbolic beauty.

When I returned home, I began seeing patterns and symbols in everything around me, even in my dreams. I proceeded to translate these intriguing ideas into mandalas. In early 2000 I learned to use meditation as a way to access the depth of these mandalas, fully exploring their therapeutic and metaphysical natures.

In 2007, after 7 years of creating symmetry mandalas, it came to me to start doing asymmetrical mandalas, a more free-flowing style. Once I started, I created 21 mandala designs in one month!
