Basiks of Lettering - Bill Boley - 1952

Boley's "Basiks of Lettering" is the only book I've ever encountered that essentially takes a mathematical approach to letterform construction. He takes you step by step through creating the different components of each letter of numerous alphabets and how to combine their strokes in order to make a properly portioned and drawn letter. It's an interesting approach worth checking out.
