Minuetto (Johann Joachim Quantz, Germany)

1 rating

I learned this lovely composition over 30 years ago from flutist Chris Norman. It serves as an excellent exercise in thinking arpeggios. I often use this piece to emphasize that fully understanding the chord progression is a far superior way to learn, process and retain a tune than simply thinking notes! Thus, we explore the circle of fifths chord movement. Early in my hammered dulcimer career, I learned from Chris Norman that it is useful to play like a flute player and breathe! I demonstrate how to phrase this wonderful piece so that it sounds like a conversation and not a run-on sentence!
