The Knit-Pickers

PURPOSE:
We can be so critical of people and the work they are doing.  We will also face criticism no matter what we do.

LOCATION:
Stage

PROPS:
Knitting needles, yarn, sweater

CHARACTERS:
Critic 1 & 2 —antagonists, scoffers
Knitter—Happily working away on something while the others criticize.

TIME:
3-4 minutes

PRODUCTION NOTE:
The person doesn’t have to know how to knit but it would certainly help.  Have some yarn extending into a basket (or her lap) where the sweater is hidden.  In fact, it doesn’t have to be a sweater…a scarf will do.  This drama doesn’t require a lot of blocking, but when the Critic yells something at the Knitter, have them step forward a bit, almost shouting it.

THOUGHTS:
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Just because we’re doing all we can do for the Lord, doesn’t mean there won’t be critics.  Moses had critics.  Elijah too.  Not everyone liked David.  Nehemiah faced plenty of “nay-sayers” who poo-pooed every step in their construction project.  (Nehemiah 6)

The Bible warns us to stay away from the mockers, because after awhile, mocking becomes contagious.

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

Also, the words of a mocker can continue to ring in our hearts years after they were uttered.  We need to forgive and remember the truth that God speaks about us, not the lies spoken by others.
