April - Complete AAA Game Asset Pipeline Mentorship

$400

This mentorship program is ideal for environment or prop artists looking for an edge to get into the AAA games industry!

This program is meant for artists who have at least an intermediate grasp of modeling software such as Max, Maya, Blender, Modo, etc. and are familiar with modeling and UV mapping. This mentorship is not designed to teach artists how to use their modeling software of choice from the ground up.

This mentorship is catered to your specific skill level. If you have reserved a seat please email me at Dennis.Porter.3D@gmail.com or contact me on Discord (@Bartalon#0001) and give me a small introduction and a link to your portfolio (if you have one) so we can begin customizing a project for you before the start date. I will have a form for you to fill out to help personalize this program to your specific strengths and weaknesses. Each person will receive a different project so you don't have to worry about blending in with a dozen other artists who made the same thing!

You do not need prior experience with subdivision modeling, high-res sculpting, baking maps, PBR texturing software, or rendering/presentation software to take advantage of this mentorship; you will learn all this in the process!

The duration of this program varies on your speed and how much time per week you put into it. The more time you have available the sooner you will finish, and the cheaper the program will be!

You will receive dedicated 1-on-1 time with me as needed via Google+ Hangouts and Discord to cover your overall progress with your project as well as discussing any topics or techniques you have questions about or are struggling with. You will continue to receive my guidance for as long as it takes you to complete the subject matter provided in this program.

The mentorship is set up to gate you at all the major phases of asset production. What this means is you will not be allowed to proceed to the next phase until I have approved your previous work. This allows you time to learn from your mistakes and make changes before you get too far ahead in production, which in turn will ensure the best possible work from you.

As you make progress in this program, you will upload your latest project files to my Google Drive for review and discussion via either Discord or in a Hangouts session. Hangouts sessions will last between 1 and 3 hours depending on the subject matter, which may include the following topics:

  • Reviewing latest progress of your work
  • Discussing theory of certain art pipeline subjects
  • Discussing other industry-related topics
  • Demonstrations of modeling, UV mapping, or texturing techniques

At the end of each session you should have clear goals on what's next and you should feel motivated and confident to make progress! Between Hangouts sessions you will be able to contact me regularly over Discord.

Generally, you can expect to get involved with the following topics during this mentorship:

  • Subdivision Modeling
  • High-res Sculpting
  • Retopologizing
  • UV Mapping
  • Cages & Baking Maps (such as normal maps, AO, etc.)
  • PBR Texturing
  • Presentation / Lighting / Composition

Questions

When will I be charged for the mentorship?

You can sign up to reserve your seat now but you won't be charged until the day the program begins.  At the end of each month, you will need to purchase another seat in order to continue the mentorship into the next month.

I can't afford the cost all at once, is there any sort of payment plan?

You can certainly contact me and we can discuss the specifics and see if we can work something out, but it's a case by case basis. No guarantees here. (Please do not pre-order a seat if you are unsure about being able to pay.)

Can I stop the mentorship for a while and resume later?

Yes! If you need to take a break or have an emergency, you can stop your subscription and I will be there when you are able to come back.  If you leave in the middle of the month I can pro-rate your next month when you return.

I was just charged for another month but I finished the program a few days later. Can I get a refund for the month?

Yes, if you finish the program within the first 10 days of that month you will receive a full refund for that month.

When will our Google+ Hangouts sessions occur?

Because my day job takes up most of my time, you can expect these sessions to happen in the afternoon on the weekends or later in the evening on weekdays (between 7-11pm CDT).

Does it matter what software I use to model?

Generally, no. I am primarily a Maya user so if you are too that's great! But if you use something else we can work around that and it shouldn't affect any demonstrations of modeling techniques or fundamentals.

I'm already really good at (modeling, texturing, etc). Will this program still benefit me?

If you are already great at one aspect of the game asset pipeline then the program's focus will be on your weaker points, as well as getting you out of your comfort zone for what you are already good at. For example if you are really great at hard surface modeling, your project may include something that has more organic shapes and emphasizes texture quality.

If you are still unsure, you can contact me and we can discuss whether this program would be good for you.

How will you determine my strengths and weaknesses in order to cater the program to me?

There will be an assessment form for you to fill out which covers your knowledge of various software and industry terminologies. Which things you rate high and low, as well as the current state of your portfolio, will determine the subject matter and emphasis of the program.

What can I expect when the mentorship begins?

Initially we will set up a Google+ Hangout so we can introduce ourselves and I'll also give you some time to ask me any particular questions you might have. I will also give you a review of your current portfolio if you so choose. Afterward, we will go over the specifics of the program and get you started on your fast track to the AAA games industry!

When do I get access to the Discord server?

You will receive an invite to the Discord the day the mentorship begins, if you're not already in there.

What if I don't have a certain program that is required for the mentorship?

I won't force you to buy or subscribe to software, but it is recommended for anything you don't already have access to. If you can't afford access to certain programs, we can find free alternatives or work around your restrictions.

Do I keep ownership of my work?

Yes!
