Opportunity Knocks
PURPOSE:
When the opportunity comes knocking, we have one chance at it. What keeps us from answering the door?
LOCATION:
Front Door
PROPS:
A door, maybe one standing in a frame. A video camera. A check that reads “You Have Won a Million Dollars!” A dish towel.
TIME:
3-4 minutes
CHARACTERS:
Janet – pondering who is at the door, skittish, fearful (casual)
Clark – the TV producer at the door (suit)
Cameraman – ready to record the moment (jeans, work clothes)
PRODUCTION NOTE:
Do your best not to show who is behind the door. If the person cannot be hidden behind a door, have them offstage. If they walk behind the door, then have them hide. Do not show the check! You can easily find a sound effects recording of a knock. If not, record your own.
THOUGHTS:
God loves opened doors.
Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Our prayers open door. Jesus stands behind the door.
Revelation 3:20 “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”
Opening a door requires intentionality. One has to want to allow the person behind the door into their home and into their lives. It’s a step of faith. It’s an opportunity we can’t ignore.
If you are a Christian, God gives you opportunities to share your faith with others. Answer it! If you are not a Christian, God knocks on your door. What he has to offer you is well OVER a million dollars. Answer it!
