About The Book

After a period of over 18 months of research that has unearthed hitherto unknown facts and new information, this book chronicles the remarkable story of Tom Crean, an Irish Explorer who was born into poverty in late nineteenth-century County Kerry.

Crean served on three of the major, pioneering expeditions to Antarctica in the early 20th century, firstly under the leadership of Captain Scott and later with Sir Ernest Shackleton.

His incredible bravery and epic feats of rescue, for which he was awarded the Albert Medal, are told in this clickable PDF version of the book along with the story of his life before and after he joined the Royal Navy at 16 years old.

To this day, Tom Crean is still not officially recognised by his country and the book brings readers up to date with an 8-year campaign created to help secure national honour for this forgotten hero.
