Issues#1: Strong Female Lead is a collection of comics featuring comic creator and artist, MOM.

The 50-ft. orange extension cable was tied around a supporting post at one end. The other was tossed over a ceiling beam, coming to a noose at the end around my neck. This was in 2012. Going to sleep at night meant another day of pain and suffering. The voices in my head were on loop: weak, pathetic, worthless. Suicide was the only way to immediately find relief.

"Be strong. Things will get better." But how the hell do you become strong? How do you go from suicide to happiness? Who were the strong women I knew? Xena. Oprah. My mom. My grandmother. There are plenty of stories about strong women, but not a lot about women becoming strong.

It's 2017. My answer to myself from five years ago: Take it one day at a time. Strength is moving forward and persisting despite the voices of yourself and others. Strength isn't the absence of weakness. Strength is recognizing weakness and allowing yourself to be transformed by it.

These comics are about women finding their own strength, whether through fighting the patriarchy, their apocalyptic circumstances, or their personal demons.
