PURPOSE:
We must choose to serve, but pick your master wisely.

LOCATION:
Slave Yard

PROPS:
None

CHARACTERS:
Slave – A man who gives his life to his master (Period costuming or modern clothing will work)

TIME:
4-5 minutes

PRODUCTION NOTE:
The scene could be a soliloquy live on stage, but it may be done in a voiceover with the actor acting out the words on stage.  Another possibility is silhouette.  The setting is 40 AD, but it works in the present too.  At our church, a guy memorized the whole piece and came out on stage and blew us all away!
You may use SOUND EFFECTS for the beating and whips and the hammer pounding.

THOUGHTS:
Jesus was a slave.

Matthew 20:26-28 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Paul called himself a slave.

1 Corinthians 9:19  Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.

Being a slave is not a bad thing.  It’s what you make yourself a slave to that matters.  It should be our primary motivation in all we do, from home to work.

Romans 6:15-18 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
