An analysis of Stephen Hawking's personal and professional life is at the root of this visual and narrative journey. His scientific contributions and physical flaws helped informed the artist's conceptual development of The Ecotone. From there, the artist created the context and spirit of The Ecotone. This 125-page artwork explores the conceptual, narrative, and visual development of The Ecotone: a utopia that explores issues of scientific progress, cultural expression, identity politics, and forms of expressions (art).

The Ecotone is a post-apocalyptic utopian society where inhabitants live a life informed by two distinct communities. An ecotone may appear on the ground as a gradual blending of the two communities across a broad area, or it may manifest itself is a sharp boundary line; therefore, the Ecotone as a methodology involves embracing complex interactions between opposing forces.

As a narrative and visual language exploration: art from one medium was transformed into other mediums - blurring the lines between digital and the analog worlds. In addition to creating a dynamic logo: the identity of the country became embedded in every facet of the image making.

The artist, Carolina Ibarra-Mendoza (IMCarolina.com), did not include her name in the artwork since this artwork is both a documentation and a real representation of The Ecotone's spirit and mythos - one that breaks many boundaries including that of authorship. Did The Ecotone create itself in the process of discovery? Is the artist simply documenting such discovery?
