This peaceful Quebecois tune came to me via flutist Chris Norman, a performing partner from my Helicon days. Pianist George Winston also heard Chris play it and later recorded it as well. The piece is an excellent demonstration of how to explore chord choices using primarily major and relative minor chords along with the parallel minor/major and an occasional strategic secondary dominant. I present a variety of arranging ideas and an accompaniment that walks the line between backup and counter melody. The accompaniment is hopefully as satisfying to play as the arrangement. I make the point that a primary mission is to see the relationship between the chord progression, the arrangement and the backup.
